The Medical Exam

Upon application for insurance, depending on your age, health and the amount of insurance you are applying for, you may have to take a medical exam. These are paid for and provided by the insurance company, who will schedule the exam for you.

The exam usually consists of a basic physical exam, a blood and urine sample, and possibly a saliva sample. Certain companies may require an EKG or an x-ray as well, especially if you are of a certain age. These tests check for HIV and hepatitis, as well as other infectious diseases, diabetes, liver and kidney function, and any immune disorders. They will also check for the presence of medications and illegal drugs, as well as for traces of nicotine. After the tests are run, the results will be checked and more tests ordered if necessary. The insurance company will then decide if you are eligible to purchase your intended policy.

As with any exam, it is best to get plenty of rest beforehand, as well as avoid alcohol, high-salt and high cholesterol foods, and caffeine.

If you need to get life insurance coverage very quickly and do not have the time of the willingness to go through the process of a medical exam, we recommend getting a quote from eLifePolicy by contacting CompareTerm directly.
